You need to fulfill the requirements laid out by the County Health Department you reside in. In Los Angeles County, you must complete a county approved Blood-borne Pathogen course, and complete a series of Hepatitis B vaccinations over a 9 month period. After that, you apply for a permit from the county and if approved, you are issued a permit to work as a body art technician and then it is a matter of becoming licensed in the city you will be working in.
